Support Planting to Feed and its mission to support communities in Delaware.
Planting to Feed Inc. is a small nonprofit based in Delaware on a mission to provide food to those who are hungry or may be suffering from homelessness. Over the last five years, we have been serving the community in different capacities all centered around bridging hunger gaps.
From managing two community garden properties, to bringing the community refrigerator movement to the State of Delaware, now supporting 5 in Wilmington and 1 in Dover
We are small but MIGHTY!
Our organization has been run entirely through volunteers and community donors. Donations will be used to stabilize and expand our Community Refrigerator program, as well as hire part time staff to manage our gardens day to day. Help us take our mission to the next level and expand our reach through this years #DoMore24DE!
About Planting to Feed Inc.
Mission: We're on a mission to provide healthy meals to those that are hungry or that may be suffering from homelessness. By utilizing our gardens we hope to end the hunger crisis and bridge the hunger gaps.
We currently operate two urban gardens in Wilmington and SIX community refrigerators in the Riverside and Southbridge areas of Wilmington, DE as well as one in Dover. We have partnered with Kingswood Community Center, Teen Warehouse, Henrietta Johnson Medical Center, YMCA DE, Hicks Anderson Community Center, and Westside Family Healthcare Dover to make these community fridges possible. These fridges are open 24/7 and are filled once per week so that the community has access to fresh produce and supplies. In season, we utilize our gardens to fill the fridges and in the off-season, we rely on financial support from donors to purchase healthy items from local shops and lower cost produce vendors. We also are managing a hydroponic Agricultural Pods, which allows us to grow crops like collard greens on a large scale. In addition to the gardens and fridges, we participate in community events to spread the word about our programs and provide supplemental food throughout the year.
In 2023, we harvested a total of 2,072.25lbs of produce between our traditional gardens and the agricultural pod; all of which went directly to the community!
Our goal is to provide quality foods to those who may not have access to it. We believe that access to quality food should not be determined by zip code! Learn more about our history.
