About Planting to Feed Inc.

Mission: We're on a mission to provide healthy meals to those that are hungry or that may be suffering from homelessness. By utilizing our gardens we hope to end the hunger crisis and bridge the hunger gaps.

We currently operate two urban gardens in Wilmington and SIX community refrigerators in the Riverside and Southbridge areas of Wilmington, DE as well as one in Dover. We have partnered with Kingswood Community Center, Teen Warehouse, Henrietta Johnson Medical Center, YMCA DE, Hicks Anderson Community Center, and Westside Family Healthcare Dover to make these community fridges possible. These fridges are open 24/7 and are filled once per week so that the community has access to fresh produce and supplies.  In season, we utilize our gardens to fill the fridges and in the off-season, we rely on financial support from donors to purchase healthy items from local shops and lower cost produce vendors. We also are managing a hydroponic Agricultural Pods, which allows us to grow crops like collard greens on a large scale. In addition to the gardens and fridges, we participate in community events to spread the word about our programs and provide supplemental food throughout the year.

In 2023, we harvested a total of 2,072.25lbs of produce between our traditional gardens and the agricultural pod; all of which went directly to the community!

Our goal is to provide quality foods to those who may not have access to it. We believe that access to quality food should not be determined by zip code! Learn more about our history.

  • $40 equals 5-6 starter plants (herbs, wild flowers, and other perennial options).
  • $50 equals a new wheelbarrow to transport soil and stone within the gardens.
  • $100 allows us to purchase 10 Hands of Hope Community Food Boxes to give away at community events.
  • $150 allows us to fill one of our community refrigerators for one week.
  • $200 allows us to fill one of our community refrigerators and freezer for one week.
