My name is Sherye Nickerson and I am with Easton Rotary. My involvement with the Blood Bank of Delmarva started shortly after when my nephew Logan Steward was diagnosed with a platelet disorder shortly before his 2nd birthday. Couple years later, he underwent intensive brain surgery and needed transfusions before during and after. My niece, Aryn, Logan's sister, also has a similar condition but it did not show until her 7th grade year. Without donors and people like you,my nephew wouldn't be a thriving academically driven 14 year old whose dream is to be a pediatric hematologist . My niece wouldn't be able to continue her favorite sport; competitive cheer. It is people like you, who have given my family hope, relief, and a promise that my niece and nephew will be okay where ever their journey takes them. My mission is to make sure that everyone in the Delmarva area has the same hope, relief and promise. That there WILL be a unit of blood product for them when needed. I need YOU, my fellow Rotarians to help keep this possible. Just 1 whole blood donation will directly help 3 people in our community. Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD) is an indispensable component of disaster preparedness for our communities' partners, hospitals, and patients. There is no substitute for the vital role played by BBD in meeting this essential need.
Founded in 1954, Blood Bank of Delmarva is a nonprofit community-based blood center that provides lifesaving blood and blood products to 1.5 million people and 19 hospitals on the Delmarva Peninsula. With donor centers in Delaware (Dagsboro, Dover, Newark), Maryland (Salisbury), Pennsylvania (Chadds Ford), and Virginia (eastern shore), we serve our community by meeting the needs of patients, hospitals, and donors with safe, high-quality blood products and related services.
