National History Day (NHD) in Delaware is a state-wide, year-long interdisciplinary program focused on historical research, interpretation, and creative expression for students in grades 6-12. By participating in NHD, students become writers, filmmakers, web designers, playwrights, and artists as they create unique contemporary expressions of history as they hone 21st century college and career ready skills. This year’s judged event will take place at Delaware State University and draw students from throughout the state. In a typical year, we have 27 schools participate, with 1,200 students taking part at the classroom level and 400 engaging at the contest level. There are 150 judges, 32 teachers, and countless parents, grandparents and friends cheering the participants on.
Of course, to pull off something of this size entails considerable expense for items such as venue staffing, teacher and student workshops, food during the event, sponsorship of winners to go on to the national level contest, awards, and the state affiliate fee to the national headquarters. Every single donation of any amount helps us fund this vital initiative for Delaware's future historians!
