Ready to spur impact?

I’m Laura Wilburn.

I’m fundraising for 2nd Annual Commuter Challenge @ Monkey Hill (Urban Bike Project of Wilmington).

Last year, thanks to my amazing friends and family who blew my fundraising goal out of the water, I carried a whopping 221 pounds across the finish line to WIN the weight category. It was the hardest thing I've ever physically done, so naturally I'm looking to see if I can carry even more this year. But look, I can't do it without your help! LET'S DO THIS.

Fundraising Benchmarks:

At $50.............I will add a saddle bag with tools and lights. Standards for any commuter!

At $100..........I will carry my UE Boom Bluetooth speaker, conveniently sized to fit perfectly in one of my bottle cages, and play the soundtrack to "Breaking Away" for the duration of my race.

At $250..........I will carry my standard commuting pannier with u-lock and cable (gotta secure those quick release wheels!), portable pump, rain coat, and that gallon of milk I picked up on my way home.

At $500..........I will carry a second full rear pannier with everything I need to make a delicious omelet. Cast iron skillet, camp stove, onions, mushrooms, a stick of butter, and of course eggs. *BONUS* If I crack any eggs going up the cobblestones, I'll do 20 squats on tired legs at the finish line.

At $750..........I will carry a front pannier full of literal bricks. I've really been ramping up the home improvement projects lately.

At $1,000..........I will carry a second front pannier full of...you guessed it. More bricks. That brick wall isn't going to rebuild itself.

At $1,250..........I will carry a milk crate on top of my rear rack with a bag of mortar (for the bricks).

At $1,500..........I will carry my full messenger bag, including laptop, notebook, and miscellaneous papers.

At $1,750..........I will hitch my cart to the back of my bike and fill it with Urban Bike Project's folding table, tabling display materials, and a small kids bike.

At $2,000..........I will add a second small kids bike to the cart. You heard that right. I will carry two bicycles on my bicycle up Monkey Hill.

*BONUS* At $3,000..........Let's push the envelope, shall we? If y'all bring me this far past my fundraising goal, I will figure out how to rig a screen to my bike and play a scene from "Breaking Away" as I ride. Tech will be a challenge, but I'm here for it if you are.

It has been the honor of my life to work for this mighty little non-profit and help it grow. Such a simple thing, the humble bicycle, is a powerful agent for change in our community. Whether it's giving someone the gift of freedom, confidence, self-sufficiency, connection to nature, or physical and mental well-being, bikes are changing lives every day. Thank you for your support so that I can keep doing the work I love, and so that nearly 2,000 Wilmington youth and adults every year can relish the gift of bicycling.
