Laura's Commuter Challenge: Baby On Board!

A fundraiser for: 5th Annual Commuter Challenge! (Urban Bike Project of Wilmington)

Organization Mission:

Urban Bike Project supports Wilmington communities by providing access to bicycling as a healthy, affordable and practical means of transportation and recreation.

Ready to spur impact?

I’m Laura Wilburn.

I’m fundraising for 5th Annual Commuter Challenge! (Urban Bike Project of Wilmington).

Last year I took a hiatus from the Commuter Challenge because I was 38 weeks pregnant. This year I'm back and...well not exactly better than ever. But I'm here, I'm sleep deprived, and I once again vow to haul unseemly amounts of weight up Monkey Hill to raise money for Urban Bike Project.

As you can imagine, my commuting cargo has changed substantially. Where I used to carry cases of beer, I'm now much more likely to be caught carrying cases of diapers. What hasn't changed is the child like joy my bicycle brings me every day. I have dedicated the last 13 years of my life to sharing that joy with others through the work of Urban Bike Project. The mission has never been more personal for me now that I look forward to sharing that joy with my little one as he grows. So in honor of bicycling, joy, and baby Ian, I'm ready to WIN this weight title again if you are ready to help me get there! The more you all donate, the more I'll carry. LET'S GET IT!!

At $50..........I'll carry my saddle bag with basic tools. Flat tires can still happen with or without baby!

At $100.........I'll carry a rear pannier stuffed with everything I need to feed baby - bottles, bulk container of formula, and pouches of purees and snacks.

At $250.........I'll carry a second rear pannier filled with baby toys, including the heaviest baby books I can find.

At $500.........I'll add a front pannier with changes of clothes, a little baby jacket in case it gets chilly, drool bibs and food bibs. So. Many. Bibs.

At $750.........I'll add a second front pannier with our picnic blanket for lounging in the park with baby.

At $1,000.......I'll strap the pack n play to my rear rack.

At $1,500.......Diapers and more diapers! I'll haul a Costco case of diapers in my trailer

At $2,500.......Baby's coming with me! Or...the weight equivalent in melon anyway. I'll attach baby Ian's shotgun seat to my bike and strap in a melon that weighs the same as him while the real baby waits for me at the finish line.
