Leading and inspiring the greater Wilmington, DE community through tzedakah (justice), tikkun olam (repairing the world), and Jewish learning.

$8,535 raised from 46 donors

$10,000 goal

Congregation Beth Emeth is once again participating in Do More 24, Delaware’s Day of Giving. Beginning at 6:00 PM on March 2 and continuing for 24 hours, we will have the opportunity to make online donations to benefit accessibility and inclusion initiatives at Beth Emeth.

Specifically, this means:

Accessibility to the Beth Emeth building: While our main entrances and the Bimah are accessible, several methods of egress are not. The side exits from the sanctuary are accessed by steps; The exit from the Social Hall has a short, steep ramp. None of these exits allow for people in wheelchairs or on crutches to safely exit. The sanctuary is of course, our primary worship space. Also, we hold many events in the area outside, which are accessed by exiting from  of the social hall. We also need to install a walkway at the exits to allow people exiting in an emergency to move safely way from the building.

The combined cost of these projects is approximately $30,000.

Accessibility to Jewish education: The Beth Emeth religious school has several special needs students enrolled each year. The needs of each student are unique. These students would all benefit significantly from a dedicated aide to assist them with their specific needs. The annual cost of an aide for a special needs student is $5,000. On average, we require 4-5 aides for a total cost of $20,000-$25,000 per  ten-month school year.

This year our goal is to raise $10,000 through the March 2-3 DoMore24 fundraising event.

While we are engaged in a number of methods to secure funds for our inclusion and accessibility initiatives including grant seeking and direct fundraising, your support on March 2-3 will significantly assist us in making comprehensive accessibility a reality for the Beth Emeth community.

The advantage of donating during this 24-hour period is that gift matches and prizes based on certain milestones, are available throughout the 24-hour period.

You may begin to donate on March 2 at 6:00 PM and continue until 6:00 PM on March 3.

Please watch for additional emails regarding the best times to donate during the 24-hour campaign period in order to maximize donor matches.

We hope that we can count on everyone’s participation as we raise money to support Beth Emeth's accessibility and inclusion initiatives. Thank you for your support.
