About Year Up Wilmington

Mission: Year Up’s mission is to close the Opportunity Divide by providing motivated young adults with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education. Your support will help us to continue to grow and serve more motivated young adults in Delaware!

Prior to COVID-19, 11,200 young adults in Delaware were out of school and not working. Many more young adults were in low-wage, low-growth, and low-stability jobs. At Year Up, we believe every young adult has potential and deserves opportunity and economic justice; but, at present we recognize that racial, social, and economic inequality across all institutions and systems—from education to employment—have worked in concert to limit advancement opportunities for many young adults in our communities. As a result, skin color, zip code, and socioeconomic status are greater predictors of who thrives than one’s ambition, skill, or talent. Every day, we work to address one of the devastating byproducts of these unjust systems: a pervasive Opportunity Divide that separates millions of talented young adults from living wage careers—a divide that is only deepening during the COVID-19 pandemic.
