The mission of the Wilmington Youth Rowing Association is to promote physical, mental, and social wellness in young people of all social, racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds using the sport of rowing and related educational programs to instill essential lifelong values including responsibility, self-discipline, teamwork, leadership, commitment, and the pursuit of excellence.

About Wilmington Youth Rowing Association

Since 1989, Wilmington Youth Rowing Association (WYRA) has remained committed to ensuring that no young athlete is ever turned away due to financial need. Rowing is the ultimate team sport—teaching discipline, teamwork, and resilience—but without financial assistance, many young athletes would never have the opportunity to participate.

During the Fall 2024 season, WYRA forgave over $10,000 in programming fees for families unable to afford the full cost of participation. Based on current need, we anticipate an even greater amount will be required for the Spring 2025 season. To continue providing access to all, we rely on the generosity of donors who believe in the power of rowing to change lives.

You can make a direct impact by sponsoring a scholarship for a young rower in need. A donation of $800 covers 50% of a season’s dues, while $1,600 provides a full scholarship, ensuring that finances never stand in the way of an athlete’s opportunity to row.
