About Wild Earth Allies

Mission: Our mission is to protect vital areas of our natural world for the benefit of wildlife, habitats, and people by inspiring collaborative action.

Wild Earth Allies joins forces with many talented practitioners to protect the wildlife and habitats that are so important to our global biodiversity. In Delaware, we work in partnership with Delaware Wild Lands to restore the 10,600-acre Great Cypress Swamp. This vitally important forested wetland ecosystem is in a rapidly changing part of the Delmarva Peninsula, and provides essential ecological services to the population of Delaware and the broader Chesapeake Bay region, including improved water quality, floodwater retention, and carbon storage. The Swamp also supports rich local biodiversity, serves as a stopover site for migratory birds and is an important refuge for native tree species such as Atlantic white cedar and bald cypress which have been reduced to a fraction of their original extent. Together with Delaware Wild Lands, we are restoring these diminished native tree species, reestablishing the natural hydrological regime, expanding habitat for threatened plants and wildlife, and increasing forest diversity and resilience.

Our organization is built on important values – optimism, cultural respect, shared learning and integrity – and we run lean, which has helped us earn the highest nonprofit rankings from Charity Navigator and GuideStar for many years.
