About People's Community Center

Mission: To form partnerships with diverse local actors in order to facilitate the healthy revitalization of human capital and human potential in downtown Dover.

People’s Community Center’s Center for Neighbors in Need will operate an emergency sanctuary during the winter months that will serve the temporarily homeless, working people who cannot afford rent, homeless veterans, those with addictions to drugs or alcohol, as well as those suffering with mental health challenges and physical disabilities. We will provide overnight emergency sanctuary from the cold for up to 50 men, from December 1st through March 31st. While they are with us they will be offered dinner, breakfast and a bagged lunch to take with them. They will be offered services and resources according to their needs and requests to include clothing, referrals to detox and rehabs, connections to local services to address their challenges  and barriers to include but not limited to health care services, mental health services,  transportation, assistance with education opportunities, employment counseling and resume and job search assistance.

From April through November we will provide evening meals Mon - Friday to the homeless and our Neighbors in Need. While at dinner they will have access to the clothing closet, food pantry, washer and dryer and showers. We will offer bags of food for those who have shelter and take out food for anyone in the streets. Our outreach continues throughout the year as the need doesn’t end with the calming of the weather.

Our goal is to empower as many guests as possible to become independent, and – in the meantime  – to keep them alive.
