Mom’s House Wilmington, established in 1997, serves as a continual beacon of hope for low income, single parents seeking to further their education. Mom’s House Wilmington provides scholarship and free services (including 4-star early education, mentoring, and tutoring) to any student parent in exchange for a contract stating they will provide 3 hours of volunteerism weekly at Mom’s House, maintain a C average or above, participate in monthly parenting/life skill classes, and aid with all fundraising.
Though the primary focus of Mom’s House Wilmington has been to empower single parents to further their education, Mom’s House has worked to include low-income working families in the community by opening enrollment in its Early Education Center. This change has created many positive outcomes, including established members mentoring scholarship recipients, a larger reach of the parenting and life skill workshops, new members and subsequent new resources and networks, and the creation of a revenue, “Purchase of Care”, to offset the cost of the scholarship program. Mom’s House Wilmington boasts a 100% graduation rate for several years and has watched as graduates navigate their way to success. A strong alumni program takes initiative in organizing fundraisers, allowing Mom’s House Wilmington to continue as a successful option for single parent students. Graduates are currently working as nurses, teachers, accountants, and many other esteemed professions.
Joining forces in the community allows Mom’s House to continue to help a growing number of families to succeed as positive parents, employees, and active volunteers. We continue to empower, uplift, and guide our families and student parents to succeed and SOAR!
