About Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League

Mission: The mission of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League (MWUL) is to empower people of color to achieve economic self-reliance, parity and civil rights.

The impact that Achievement Matters! has on Delaware's children starts in their day-to-day lives. Our program helps them achieve success during the formative years of their schooling and empowers them to dream big and prepare for their futures.

The MWUL believes that each one of us plays a critical role in closing the educational achievement gap. ALL students – regardless of race or economic circumstance -- deserve to be prepared for life well-beyond high school. Whether the student's post-secondary path is college, the military, or the workforce, Achievement Matters! assures that the students are met and supported as needed.

Serving over 100 students every year in Wilmington since 2006, Achievement Matters! has worked to significantly increase graduation rates and reduce the learning slides and achievement gaps disproportionately affecting low-income children of color.

At Achievement Matters! we strive to provide students with the opportunity to engage with individuals in varying career pathways. Our mentoring initiative utilizes guest speakers from MWUL stakeholders, local corporations and private sector, community leaders, and MWUL auxiliaries. In addition to academic support and career exploration, we offer skill-building opportunities such as: financial literacy, digital literacy, self-esteem building, public speaking skills, STEAM Career Knowledge, 21st Century Skills, College Preparation.
