Harper’s Heart was founded in August of 2018, by Giovanna A. Andrews, in an effort to improve the services given to mothers in need. Our mission is to create a loving safe environment for mothers and mothers to be, where they can gain access to essentials for their children. We do this by providing mothers with children age 0-24 months old, with access to essentials, resources and education.
Our emergency services provide mothers with items such as, but not limited to; diapers, clothing, car seats and formula. Our educational programs include the “Reading With Heart” initiative and Breastfeeding program. The “Reading With Heart” is powered by local public libraries, to promote education exposure to the youngest of scholars. While also, encouraging quality parent engagement through the wonderful world of books.
Our Breastfeeding program, which launched in 2021 in partnership with Medela, was born out of a need to expose, promote and educate pregnant mothers about the health benefits of breastmilk. This program gives pregnant mothers the opportunity to receive educational resources from licensed lactation consultants, one-on-one support and a breastfeeding essential kit. These kits include brand new breast pumps, valued at $400, and our mothers receive this free of charge.
In the three years of operations, Harper’s Heart has given away over $300,000.00 in free items to mothers in the Wilmington, DE area. Our motto is “Where Service Meets Love” and we pride ourselves on excellent client care, program access to all and equal opportunity for our mothers. As a one woman operations team, we understand the importance of grassroots organization and “boots on the ground” ideology for our approach.
