Give Back helps students who face significant financial challenges and those who have experienced barriers to success such as foster care, homelessness, or the incarceration of a parent. We are empowering these students to build resilience, overcome adversity, and find pathways to become self-reliant adults and leaders of their communities.
Give Back Scholars participate in programming and receive coaching throughout high school to prepare them for an education and a career. We help students explore different career opportunities and get hands-on experience while in high school. Our Scholars build a career-based educational plan and we help them get the post-secondary education they will need to be successful in that career.
We currently have a cohort of students both in High School in Delaware along with a cohort of students enrolled at the University of Delaware. There are 28 students who will be attending UD where Give Back has an agreement so that these students are fully funded and not responsible for any costs related to tuition, fees, room and board. We are also supporting another 80 students enrolled in the same program that are currently enrolled and attending UD. These students receive support throughout their high school and college years from Give Back.
We work with several high schools in the state including:
Charter School of Wilmington
A.I DuPont
Del-Castle
Archmere
Sallies
Freire Charter School
Sussex Tech
Smyrna High School
Sussex Central
St. Marks
Cape Henlopen
William Penn
Caesar Rodney
Newark High School
Newark Charter
While we provide a "closing the gap" scholarship for scholars who have been accepted to the University of Delaware, our scholars also participate in monthly individualized college and career coaching in addition to academic and wellbeing support. One of the biggest programming components that we offer our Delaware scholars is transitional support from middle to high school and high school to post-secondary. We also assist our scholars and their families in identifying and accessing resources in the community and if need be, will advocate for them when they have hit barriers.
Our goal is to expand the program and reach more youth who have faced adverse childhood experiences including Foster Care, Homelessness, or the incarceration of a parent. Learn more on our website at
