Girls on the Run Delaware delivers two life-changing character development programs for girls in 3rd through 8th grades. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident, using a fun, experience- based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
Our programs, for 3rd through 8th grade girls, meet after school, twice a week, for 10 weeks. Each year, our programs are offered statewide in the Spring and Fall. Our innovative program combines training for a 5K with interactive lessons that encourage positive emotional, social, mental and physical development.
Social isolation and stressors related to the COVID-19 pandemic have made our program more important now, than ever.  Girls on the Run has adjusted our program to meet the needs of our community.  Our newly updated program is designed to be in-person, virtual (through Zoom) or a combination of both. Our 2021 Spring program will incorporate many community teams as well as school based teams across the state.  These teams will celebrate the end of the season with mostly in person 5K’s at their team site.  We will also have a virtual 5K open to all community members and past GOTR participants, parents and coaches.  We hope to return to our original program in Fall 2021 with a state wide in person 5K celebration to culminate the season in November.
About Girls on the Run Delaware

Girls on the Run Delaware is more than an after-school activity, it’s a confidence building movement disguised as a running program. Designed for girls in grades 3 to 8, it blends movement with meaningful conversations about self-worth, friendships, resilience, and goal-setting, using games and interactive lessons to make big life skills feel approachable and fun. Over a 10 week season, small teams led by trained volunteer coaches create a supportive space where girls learn to challenge negative self-talk, celebrate their strengths, and encourage one another. The season culminates in a joyful, non-competitive 5K that isn’t about finishing first, but about finishing proud symbolizing the inner strength and growth each participant has built along the way. Our 5K's this spring will be in Wilmington on April 25th and Georgetown on April 26th.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
One of the most unique aspects of Girls on the Run Delaware is our outreach to serve girls from low to moderate income families statewide.  In order to fund these lower income families, we rely on generous grants, corporate sponsorships, and individual donations to underwrite the cost of our program fee for our underserved girls. Our objective is to make our program available to all girls throughout the state and to deliver our curriculum to all girls regardless of their families ability to pay the program fee. Over 65% of our participants receive a partial or full scholarship to participate in our program each season. In 2025 alone, we provided 1,200  girls over $200,000 in scholarship funding.  We have never turned away a girl for their inability to pay.
