Problems students are facing at UD:

  • On campus, it is a challenge to have a strong sense of community. This is absolutely crucial for students to reach their fullest potential & develop into their best selves.
  • New age = new challenges. Mental health crises abound on college campuses. Whether it’s a student struggling with suicidal thoughts or one who is completely overwhelmed with anxiety or depression, this is a very real issue.
  • Students crave a safe & comfortable environment to unwind throughout a week of classes and mountains of homework. They are in need of a way to balance their lives.
  • In particular, Jewish students being away from home for the holidays is hard and very lonely.
  • Students are at an important junction in life and need help, support & guidance in finding meaning/purpose in a very busy world.

In response to the problems students are facing, Chabad will provide:

  • It all begins with Chabad acting as the de facto home away from home while at school! Most everything else is an outgrowth of this home.
  • Provide informal counseling for students — passing them on to see trusted professionals when necessary.
  • For every holiday, help students celebrate in an open and welcoming home environment. Inspire students to celebrate the holidays in their own homes. Our family style, weekly Shabbat dinner and discussion feeds and comforts their body and soul. Providing the harmony they need to succeed.
  • Create a space where Jewish tradition & culture is fun and exciting while being open to all. Hosting social events and casual hangouts will help foster a sense of belonging to a larger community.
  • Offer classes and discussions covering a range of issues facing the modern day college student.
  • Empower our students to realize how powerful they truly are. This can be done through setting up student led steering committees and volunteer groups within the campus and broader community.
