I’m Megan Allen.

I’m fundraising for SL24: Unlocke the Light.

Having a 15-year-old son in high school who was a little league all-star and a current high school baseball and basketball player this amazing story and cause real hit home.   Like Sean Locke, my son and many other teens their favorite memories and defining moments involve sports.  Mental illness does not care if you were a college athlete or homecoming king.

The UNLOCKE THE LIGHT movement has three objectives:
1. Educate high school and college students
to the signs of depression, remove the stigma of depression, and make available resources to help people with depression and the real threat of suicide.
2. Assist high school and college students with the transitions of life, helping them gain the tools to live life with mental illness and finding the tools to cope with the many challenges that life brings.
3. Create a safe haven where high school and college students receive professional help and speak to peers about their struggles with depression and the threat of suicide.

About SL24: Unlocke the Light

Mission: The UNLOCKE THE LIGHT movement has three objectives: 1. Educate high school and college students to the signs of depression, remove the stigma of depression, and make available resources to help people with depression and the real threat of suicide. 2. Assist high school and college students with the transitions of life, helping them gain the tools to live life with mental illness and finding the tools to cope with the many challenges that life brings. 3. Support young people by creating a safe haven where high school and college students can receive support and speak to peers about their struggles with mental health and the threat of suicide.

On September 24, 2020 we opened Sean's House. Sean’s House is a mental health safe haven for young adults ages 14-24, created by the local non-profit SL24: Unlocke the Light. We promote our guests’ mental wellness by providing access to trained peer support specialists and assistance connecting with community mental health resources, as well as by providing space for guests to do schoolwork, relax with friends, or simply pick up a hot cup of coffee. It is our hope to reduce the rate of youth suicide by providing a place for young adults to feel safe, welcomed, and supported. Sean's House is open 24/7 and free of charge.
