Mary Ellen's Safe harbor: help keep her off the street and out of the heat

A fundraiser for Shepherd's Office, Inc.

$3,505 raised from 48 donors

$2,500 goal

I’m Ruby Bell.

I’m fundraising for Shepherd's Office, Inc..

Mary Ellen is a loving mother and grandmother who has unfortunately been homeless for quite some time now struggling on the streets as she has asked for help but sadly been passed around from town to town or even state to state let's prove to her that she has found a safe and caring area to land in. We have learned that she has bipolar disorder and has unfortunately stopped taking her medication which may be how she ended up homeless she has family spread out throughout Maryland and Delaware but unfortunately nobody is able to help her due to her mental disabilities nobody deserves to be out in this heat it is way too hot for somebody in her condition to be outside sleeping on the street . Her legs are severely swollen as well as her feet and she needs to be able to rest them for as long as she possibly can .
We are still in need of a more permanent situation for her as her mental health as well as physical health is spiraling out of control . We have learned that she has stopped taking her medication about a year or 2 ago and that's when she started running into hardships and things have only gone down hill from there . I am still in need of prayers as well as a few donations she could really use some breathable sports bras and size large underwear as well as XXL socks or compression socks. . Mary Ellen is a beautifully strong soul with a very very smart mind she just has some mental disabilities that have led her into a dark path.
🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️❤️

Thank you all !

Every day, even on weekends and holidays, we serve the homeless, hungry or lonely in Georgetown.  We serve all ages, adults, children, and families. We are seeing many employed "car dwellers" and employed "motel moms" who are not "roofless" but they are "homeless" because they have no permanent place to live yet.
We are giving out 200 to 300 Free Healthy Homemade Meals at 4 PM every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  We also were approved as a Food Insecurity Partner with the Food Bank of Delaware.  We also have a very busy food pantry inside our building.  We also have an outdoor food pantry that is open 24/7/365.  To follow us daily, just sign in to see us at:  www.facebook.com/helpinghomeless
As a Partner to the Food Bank, we count all our hot meals that we give out each day.  In 2024 we gave out just over 65,000 free homemade healthy meals. We also give out 200 to 300 Brown Bags filled with healthy snacks, baby wipes and water every day.  In 2025, we are on pace of giving out over 100,000 free meals.  We also give out Free Family Food Boxes upon request.
Our mission is to provide homemade, healthy, hot meals to anyone in need in the Georgetown area. Another major goal that we have is for members of our local community to never have to throw away good healthy food!!  Everyday,  we accept food donations from local supermarkets, restaurants, businesses, farms, local events, any and all leftovers from Meals on Wheels.  Our 3 large tables outside on our front porch are always available to receive deliveries of food items and is available to people in need 24/7/365. Our "no questions asked", outdoor food pantry on  front porch acts as a direct link for those in need, providing immediate access to healthy nourishment without barriers 24 hours a day. (as our supplies last)  You can drive by at any time day or night, and see food donations available to people in need.  We think that our well-placed 24 hour, "no questions asked" outdoor food pantry can transform the lives of those struggling with hunger, ensuring that no one has to wait long to satisfy their basic needs.  Our goal is to foster a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.  -Jim Martin, Shepherd's Office 302-858-8556

Please help us  "Do More" in 2025 for the homeless, hungry or lonely in Sussex County.  In 2024, we gave out over 65,000 Free Hot, Healthy, Home-Made Meals from our front porch at 408 N. Bedford Street in Georgetown DE.  In 2025, we are on pace to give out over 100,000 Free Meals.

Thanks for all your help last year!  We are hopeful for another great contest in 2025!  Here are two links to news stories highlighting our recent First Place win in last year's 2024 "Do More 24 Delaware" 24 hour Contest held on March 7th and 8th!!  Out of over 500 non-profits participating in Delaware, the Shepherd's Office in Georgetown was the non-profit that attracted the most  donors and also earned the most dollars in Delaware's Biggest Giving Day.  Here are two recent articles about our statewide win in the Do More 24 Delaware Contest!!
