Welcome to the 10th Annual Operation Warm Delaware Sam’s KIDS Camping Out for Coats!
After recognizing the significant number of children living at or below the poverty line in elementary schools throughout Newport, Stanton and Wilmington, Sam’s KIDS (formerly the Delaware KIDS Fund) partnered with national nonprofit Operation Warm with a simple mission: give EVERY child in EVERY school a brand-new coat.
A new coat provides much more than warmth. It can foster pride, confidence, peer acceptance, improved school attendance and a stronger sense of belonging. It’s more than a coat—it’s an investment in a child’s future.
In 2017, we took that mission one step further and created Camping Out for Coats, a community-wide fundraising challenge. A brave group of volunteers spent a cold November night sleeping outside in the heart of Newport, Delaware, to raise awareness and funds for local children in need.
Ten camps later, the mission continues—and we’re growing! In 2026, Camping Out for Coats is moving to Frawley Stadium in Wilmington, giving us more room to welcome families, friends and supporters to camp alongside us.
Since that first camp in 2017, our community has helped provide more than 17,000 brand-new coats to 17,000 elementary students across 32 schools.
And the need remains just as important in 2026.
We invite you to be part of the next chapter. A $25 donation provides one brand-new coat for a child, or you can take the challenge and camp out with us at Frawley Stadium as we work together to warm up another school—or two—this winter. If camping isn't your thing, we encourage you to visit camp for an inspirational evening of live music, food, beverages and community spirit all in the outfield of Frawley Stadium!

Sam’s KIDS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2008 as the Delaware KIDS Fund and reintroduced as Sam’s KIDS with an expanded mission. Founded by Thomas and Lexie Hanna with the support of friends and community partners, the organization is dedicated to providing essential goods, resources and experiences to children at risk and in distressed situations.

Sam's KIDS was re-named from Delaware KIDS Fund in 2023 in memory of our son Sam Hanna. Sam cared deeply for his friends and family and felt safety and stability was a human right. He inspired us all with his enthusiasm, wisdom and deep understanding of others during his 13 years on earth. Sam continues to spread joy and love in our community from heaven. He overcame adversity, embraced each day as a new adventure and through an anchor of hope, shared a faithful and fulfilling life. #Play4Sam
