Organization Mission:
The Barbara K. Brooks Transition House assists vulnerable women in southern Delaware by providing safe, sober housing, supporting them to grow and to become empowered independent sober citizens.
At the Barbara K. Brooks Transition House, our vision for 2020 is to raise funding to continue to provide scholarships for women who need to obtaining housing, opportunities for them to secure appropriate employment, provide them with safe transportation to and from work, partner with local health professionals to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle and to continue to provide the assistance required for them to become self-sufficient, productive members of our community.
Here is what some of our residents say about the residence....
- 34 year old L J states:
"One of the best things about living in a transition house has been the feeling of family with the women. We are all rowing the same boat in the same direction, toward long term recovery and personal growth. It's wonderful knowing that every woman in the house is sober and we all support each other's recovery and needs. Living in the house has afforded me the opportunity to grow as an individual and as a productive member of society.... I am confident that when I leave the Barbara Brooks Transition House I will maintain not only my sobriety, but my friendships I have found. I'm forever thankful!"
- 26 year old H E states:
“Living at the Barbara K. Brooks Transition House, my housemates are not just my housemates, they are my best friends. I feel safe and secure knowing that they are sober too…Living in this house helps me to accept responsibility…Responsibility and accountability have helped me in my sobriety greatly….Living in the Barbara Brooks House is one of the best decisions I have ever made.”
- 33 year old K T states:
"The Barbara Brooks house wasn’t just a house, it was a home.... Everyone was so supportive, especially Ms. Debbie.... She encouraged me to take my DUI classes, and get my license back. Which eventually led me to getting a car, ALL on my own! She helped me when it came to managing my money, which also led me to recently moving out, into my own apartment. The Barbara Brooks house was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had in my life....I got my second chance..... Thanks to Ms. Debbie and the Barbara Brooks House!!!!"
